FAQ

  • What type of balance problems are treated?
Vestibular rehabilitation therapy addresses various conditions like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), unilateral vestibular hypofunction (UVH), and balance issues related to neurological disorders, stroke, and TBI. We also specialize in treating patients with non-vestibular balance deficits, such as unsteadiness that simply arises from the aging process.
  • How long does it take to see results?
Patients requiring treatment for BPPV only often require just 1-2 office visits for significant improvement in symptoms. Other patients experience some relief within 2-4 weeks, but maximum improvements may take up to 2-3 months, depending on the individual's condition.
  • What happens during a typical session?
Sessions involve a personalized exercise program, which may include neck mobility, vision stability training, posture training, balance retraining, and sometimes canalith repositioning maneuvers.
  • Can VRT help with chronic balance problems?
Yes, VRT can be effective even for long-standing balance issues, though they may require more time and patience.
  • Will the exercises be painful?
Not likely! Some exercises may initially cause mild dizziness or discomfort, but they are designed to be safe and gradually progressive, with therapists monitoring responses and adjusting as needed.
  • How long does a therapy session normally last?
PT sessions generally last for about an hour.
  • Do I need a physician referral for PT?
You do not typically need a referral from a doctor to get physical therapy services. However, your insurance plan may have specific requirements for reimbursement, so it's recommended to check with your insurance provider to confirm their policies. The staff at Natural State Physical Therapy will be glad to assist you with this as needed.
  • What insurance companies do you accept?
We accept Medicare, BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Ambetter, United Healthcare/UHC, Humana, and Tricare. We also have cash/credit card payment options (no referral required).
  • Do you have a Telehealth option?
Yes! We are capable of providing Telehealth therapy for patients who are unable to drive to the clinic.
  • What should I wear to therapy?
Wear sneakers or comfortable shoes with no heels, along with comfortable clothing that allows for movement.
  • Will I need to do exercises at home?
Yes, many exercises can be performed at home with minimal or no equipment. Your therapist will ensure you feel comfortable with a personalized home exercise program to make sure you see the best results.
